Cavs on our Trip

Hi this is Brian. Amy is on strike today. It is a sea day between Taiwan and Japan. The waters have been a little rough and it is raining. We watched a couple of movies Melissa and Jonathan gave us. I bought a VGA cable in Hong Kong so we can watch them on our stateroom television through our laptop. I wish I would have thought of this in advance and brought a cable from home. The stateroom has an LCD television, so it works nicely.

Today’s post will be all about the Cavs. We appreciate Dawn’s emails with Cavs updates. Yesterday we even got to see Mo William’s half court shot on ESPN’s sport center. On past trips abroad, we generally do not see any NBA or Cavs stuff aside from what ESPN international chooses to cover in between Cricket and soccer highlights. China has been different though and we’ve seen NBA advertisements even around town.

Early in the trip we visited Cavs.com to get an update on team news. Because we were connecting in Beijing, China, the Cavs website detected our location and presented itself in Mandarin for us. We had to VPN into a U.S. network to get Cavs.com in English! That caught us by surprise.



We saw a few Lebron advertisements in Beijing. Many others featured Yao Ming. Notice the Yao statue in the upper right of the picture below (with Lebron on the billboard to the left).



In Hong Kong Lebron seemed to be everywhere. There were advertisements on the street and special sections in Nike stores that featured Lebron merchandise. We even found witness jackets.







Outside of China, we met a guy from Poland in Thailand and told him we were from Cleveland, Ohio. He immediately responded, “Oh yes - Lebron James.”

We are glad everyone is enjoying the blog. We appreciate the comments. This trip we have spent more time writing them up and selecting and posting photos. We are glad that everyone has found them interesting. Overall the trip has been great. We have just two cities left: Okinawa, Japan and Shanghai, China. We get back into Cleveland near 11pm Saturday night (Dec 19).
