Two Days in Bermuda

Our first day on the ship was a sea day. We did not do too much - just a little swimming and exercising. This vacation is going to be different than our past trips. Usually we go on vacation with an exact itinerary that plans out every moment with something to do. We loved our past trips but this time we want a typical summer vacation where we simply relax and have fun in the sun!

When we arrived to Bermuda, we knew we needed to get a 2 day bus/ferry pass. This would allow us to travel between cities. We were docked in Kings Wharf (Dockyard). There is not really much to do there. The two major cities in Bermuda are Hamilton and St. George. Hamilton is about 20 minute ferry ride from Kings Wharf and St. George is about 40 minutes from Kings Wharf. We got on the first ferry to Hamilton.

Hamilton was a busy city with lots of shops and restaurants. We walked around for a while. We visited a few parks. We also walked towards a fort but decided we did not want to pay to go inside so we didn't go all the way up to it. We made a mistake and did not pay attention to the ferry schedule. When Brian did look at it, we realized the next ferry would not be coming for another 2 hours. We had just missed the ferry by about 5 minutes. I guess this is the downside of being so relaxed on this trip and not planning out a schedule like usual. Luckily there was another ferry going to St. George in a half hour so we decided to do that.

When we got to St. George, it was smaller and more quaint. We walked around there for a while and visited a park and a church. It was a very nice city. We enjoyed our time there much more than in Hamilton.

We took the ferry back to Kings Wharf. We got cleaned up for dinner. Bermuda was hot! We walked around the dockyard before dinner. After dinner, we went to a concert in the park at the dockyard. There was a local band that was pretty good. There were also venders selling their merchanize and carnival like food for sale. It was a fun night.

The next morning we got up and took a bus to Horseshoe Bay Beach. It is one of the most famous beaches in Bermuda. We were at the beach by 9am. We found a nice place to set up by the rocks so we would be in the shade. With my fair skin, I cannot be out in the sun too long even though I had lots of sunscreen on. We walked the beach. At the end, there was some rocks that were beautiful. Past the rocks there was even more beach that most people did not go to see. We really enjoyed our time there. It was so beautiful. The sand was pink. The water was crystal clear and warm. Oh it was great! This is my type of beach.

After several hours at the beach, we took the bus back to our ship. We had to be on board at 1330 to set sail back to Baltimore. Once we got on board, we went to the deck and watched for any people that might miss the boat. It is always fun to watch people run for the ship. Two people came running in about 20 minutes late, but still before the ship set sail so they made it aboard. That's cutting it close!

It was a great time in Bermuda. I really hope to go back there soon!

On Board

We are now on board the Enchantment of the Seas. The ship will be setting sale momentarily. Right now they are starting to move away from the dock. We have used my Android phone with PDANet to get wireless access on our laptop. It works pretty nice.

Last night we drove 4 hours to Breezewood, PA. The Pennsylvania turnpipe does not have many stops for food. We tried getting dinner at Eat and Park and the wait was too long. We went to Wendy's which actually had a longer wait. They were really slow and confused. It took about 20 minutes to get our food and we were even given the wrong sandwich (we only ordered 3 things). They were having a tough time figuring things out.

When we arrived in Breezewood, we knew of 3 hotels with cheap prices based on my droid phone. We stopped at Best Western and they gave us a price that was $5 more than we could get online. They asked us if we had any eligible discounts: ARP, AAA, etc. No, but we had our droid discount. So we went outside and went online and booked a room on the internet for $5 cheaper ($80) and then went back inside and they pulled up our new reservation and we saved a couple of dollars just like that. Not bad!

We got up this morning around 7am and went to breakfast which wasn't very good, so we ran across the street to McDonalds. We had a juice box left on the roof of the car as we drove. It managed to stay up there the whole time and the ride back. Some other people who were sitting outside drinking coffee had watched us drive off and come back and they told us about it. They were amused that it had survived the trip.

We drove 2.5 hours to Baltimore and just got on the cruise. The port was easy to find and parking was right in front of the ship. It cost $75 for the 5 days we'll be here ($15 per day). We are now on the ship and heading towards Bermuda.

Going to Bermuda

We are leaving today for vacation. We are driving to Baltimore, MD. Tomorrow we get on a cruise ship in Baltimore to Bermuda. The cruise is 5 nights on Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas. After the cruise, we are driving to Ocean City, MD for a couple days to relax on the beach.

This vacation is going to be relaxing. We do not have anything planned. I think this is the first time we do not have anything planned. We just want to have fun together.

Once Brian gets home, we plan to drive about 4-5 hours towards Baltimore. We will get a hotel then drive the rest of the way in the morning. We are not big on driving so breaking it up really helps.
